We have all heard the recommendation to find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life. That is great advice, but how do you find a job you will love and why are so many people employed in jobs they don't like?

Over the years we have discovered that the Holland Interest Assessment can help individuals identify their interests. If you would like to take the Holland Interest Assessment you can do so for free HERE.

This helps identify careers, assemble a team to solve a problem or manage associates with a wide variety of personalities and interests. The interests, called RIA-SEC codes, are divided into six areas:

REALISTIC

People with strong realistic characteristics often enjoy practical, hands-on problems and solutions. They often work outdoors with plants, animals, and real-world materials like tools, wood, and machinery. Careers do not involve an excessive amount of paperwork. You may work closely with others and frequently have a "get it done" attitude. Realistic people view themselves as practical and often conservative. They are the DOERS.

ARTISTIC

Artistic types are creative, unstructured, and imaginative. They may possess musical, artistic, literary, and high-level management skills. Artistic people often enjoy innovative and open experiences, not overly organized and structured activities. They prefer to let their emotions soar and guide them to develop out-of-the-box solutions to problems. Creative types generally avoid regimented and routine activities. They are the CREATORS.

ENTERPRISING

Individuals with high enterprising scores generally enjoy interacting with people offering leadership, persuasion, and management. They tend to be comfortable with decision-making and may be ambitious, competitive, and self-confident. Enterprising types are often attracted to economically rewarding endeavors, start-ups, and working on projects, and are comfortable exerting power over others and taking risks. They are the PERSUADERS.

CONVENTIONAL

Individuals with high conventional scores prefer to be organized and avoid surprises. 2 + 2 should always equal 4. They like tomorrow to be predictable and like the rules, policies, and procedures to be clearly defined. Routine operations are rarely boring. These occupations can include working with data and details more than with ideas. They also like to work in organizations with a clear line of authority to follow. They are the ORGANIZERS.
